My primary goal in clarinet lessons is to not only teach students to play the clarinet, but also how to be well-rounded musicians and people. I will accomplish this by teaching students of all ages the techniques that I have been taught and developed on my own throughout my studies and career.

My beginning focus will be on the very basics of playing the clarinet, such as forming the proper embouchure, using the correct hand position, and sitting with the proper posture. Teaching students these basic concepts will aid in them being able to create a characteristic tone and play without having to worry about feeling pain or tension later in their careers. Students will also learn how to listen to various recordings and styles of playing to identify how they would like to play their instrument in ways that show their artistic abilities; to learn the basic mechanics of the instrument; and develop pedagogical skills.

Students will also learn the life skills that not only contribute to being good musicians, but also will help to create successful habits of well-respected people. I firmly believe that the most successful musicians are first and foremost, punctual; second, kind people; and finally, good musicians. I will hold students to a standard of being punctual, well prepared for their lessons, and build other habits that translate to contexts outside of music such as responding well to constructive criticism and treating their colleagues with respect.
