Who I Am

Adam Stallings is a clarinetist and music educator currently based in Kansas City, MO, and attending the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Prior to moving to Kansas City, he was a freelance performer and educator working throughout Hattiesburg, MS, and in the Metro-Atlanta area before that.

As a performer, Adam has performed with a number of orchestras and ensembles throughout the Atlanta, Hattiesburg, and Kansas City areas; including the Sonaré Chamber Winds, the Atlanta Chamber Collective, and the Southern Miss Wind Quintet.

Throughout his career, Adam has had the opportunity to collaborate with and learn from some of the most prolific artists of the modern music world. In recent years, Adam has performed the work Ghost Train by Eric Whitacre, under the direction of Whitacre himself; and also performed on the Southeastern premiere of Sila: Breath of the World, a composition by Pulitzer Prize winning composer John Luther Adams, with Bent Frequency, the faculty ensemble in residence at Georgia State. Adam has performed in masterclasses for esteemed guest artists such as members of the President’s Own Marine Band, John Bruce Yeh, and Anthony McGill.

Outside of being a performer, Adam is a passionate music educator and continues to work with students ranging from elementary to undergraduate level, and maintains a private studio. During his career, he has worked with numerous middle and high school band programs throughout the Metro-Atlanta and Greater Kansas City areas. Many of his private students have achieved success studying with him and have gone on to move up in their schools ensembles and have placed well at District and State level auditions. While serving as a graduate assistant with the Clarinet Studio at USM, Adam has also taught undergraduate students in both private lessons and in masterclass settings.

Adam began his private clarinet studies with Steven Gooden and continued his studies with Dr. Kenneth Long at Georgia State University, where he graduated cum laude in the spring of 2019 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education; he then went on to earn a Master’s degree in Clarinet Performance at the University of Southern Mississippi in the spring 2022, where he studied with Dr. Jackie McIlwain. His additional teachers include Dr. Dennis Nygren, retired professor of clarinet at Kent State University. In the Fall of 2022, Adam relocated to the Kansas City Metropolitan area to pursue a DMA in Clarinet Performance at the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music and Dance, where he studies with Dr. Jane Carl.
